Abstract
The need for navigation is becoming more and more common and sometimes mandatory in many socio-economic activities today. In which, digital map (electronic map) is an indispensable component in the solutions. Although there are many solutions on the market, the research process continues because the use of these solutions has limitations in terms of map data, data security and availability. The article presents the role of maps in navigation, problems in building electronic maps for land navigation from a large-scale topographic map database, and technical solutions to overcome the difference between the topographic map database and the navigation map. The successful construction of electronic map data synchronously with software for positioning, navigation and tracking allows solving problems in accordance with requirements, usage habits of maps and current data. On that basis, it will improve technological autonomy for building other applications.
