Abstract
An increasing number of countries worldwide are investing in innovative technology systems to build smart cities, driving sustainable development and improving people’s lives. In line with this universal trend, many tourism destinations are now modernizing to include the use of smart technology in their operations to transform the visitor experience, thereby enhancing the long-term competitiveness of tourism. This paper presents the design and construction of a multi-platform smart tourism system based on open-source technologies such as Flutter, NodeJS, and PostgreSQL. Especially combined with GIS technology, the system becomes richer, more flexible and useful than current smart tourism systems. The authors have tested a real environment with 10 clusters of points containing more than 230 attractions and tourist services classified under many different types. The evaluation results show that the system has an intuitive interface, stable operation, and many useful features, allowing tourists to interact faster and easily look up information on the destination or attraction that they are visiting
